High-pixel count LCD controllers commence high-volume production
September 16, 2003
Holtek is delighted to announce the commencement of high-volume production of its range of high-pixel count LCD panel controllers, namely the
HT1650, HT1660, and
HT1670. With their internal bit-mapped data RAM, the devices possess the capability to control dot-matrix TN (Twisted
Nematic) or STN (Super Twisted Nematic) types of LCDs, making them extremely suitable for use in a wide range of LCD module and LCD consumer product application areas such as MP3,
PDAs, game consoles, exercise equipment measurement apparatus etc.
The HT1650device can control up to 2048 patterns in a 64 segment by 32 common format, the
HT1660 can control up to 3072 patterns in a 96 segment by 32 common format while the
HT1670 can control up to 4096 patterns in a 128 segment by 32 common format. The devices have been specifically designed to interface easily to I/O type
MCUs, requiring only 6 interface lines to communicate with their host controller, namely a 4-bit data interface DB0~DB3 and two control lines CS and
WR. Additional functions are provided in the way of an internal RC oscillator, a Watchdog Timer, and a 2kHZ or 4kHZ dual frequency buzzer driver function.
The devices are packaged in both chip form and QFP packages. In addition the software configuration features of the devices extend greatly their application possibilities by allowing instructions to read and write to the internal display RAM as well as giving control over the frame frequency and the number of LCD segments and commons.
