08/12/2009

The HT56R6x/HT56R6xx series of devices are Holtek’s newly released series of 8-bit TinyPowerTM A/D with LCD type MCUs. In using Holtek’s unique TinyPowerTM technology, this series of MCUs provides the features of ultra low power, fast wake-up, multi-timer signal sources as well as multiple operating modes etc. With these encompassed features this range of devices greatly reduces power requirements to meet the demands of today’s environmentally conscious products. The device range will see excellent use in application areas such as instrumentation, water and gas metering products, many household appliances, exercise equipment displays, intelligent card readers to name but a few application areas.

The HT56R64, HT56R62/65/642/644/654/656, HT56R66/666, HT56R67/668/678 range is composed of 12 MCU devices encompassing a full range of many different functions. Among these are a specification which includes a core with an OTP Program Memory capacity of 2K~32K, a RAM Data Memory capacity of 128~2304 Bytes and 6~12 Stack levels. With regard to the peripheral functions all devices include a 6 to 8 channel 12-bit high speed Analog to Digital converter which can measure external environmental measurements such as temperature, humidity etc. An internal 3 to 4 channel 12-bit Pulse Width Modulator function is also included which can be used for motor control operation and 16~32 I/O lines are provided which can be used to interface to external switches and other peripheral components. Additionally, the devices can interface and drive up to 1024 pixel Liquid Crystal Displays. The inclusion of a dual SPI/I2C serial interface function, an internal Programmable Frequency Divider and a range of two to four 8-bit and 16-Bit internal timers, give this new range of devices an exceptionally comprehensive range of features to meet the needs of a huge range of microcontroller based applications.

Holtek also fully supports these devices with its comprehensive hardware and software development tools. Known as the HT-IDE300, these development tools provide features such as real time emulation, memory and register read functions, hardware breakpoints complete with logical setups, full trace facilities etc. All these development tool features combine to ensure that designers have a full suite of tools at hand to provide for rapid and efficient design and debug of their microcontroller based new product applications.
