New Holtek HT48R54A High Current LED Driver I/O type MCU Product Release

08/06/2007

The HT48R54A, as a new 8-bit High Current Drive LED Driver I/O type MCU, possesses up to 40 input/output pins. Among these I/O pins and ports, both Port D and Port E, when operating at a working voltage of 5V can sink up to 40mA of current and can drive up to 256 LEDs.

The HT48R54A includes 4K x 15 of OTP Program Memory and 192 x 8 of Data Memory, 40 I/O pins, dual 8-bit timers, a 3-level Low Voltage Reset function, a PFD/Buzzer function as well as an internal 6-level stack, to name but a few of its features, all of which add up to supply the user with a host of software controlled internal features. Regarding packaging, the device is supplied in both 44-pin and 52-pin QFP package types and is presently available in customer samples as well as in production volumes.

The HT48R54A has exceptionally low power requirements. Using a 32768Hz Real Time Clock as the system oscillator, the operating current is only 20uA at a 3V operation voltage. If the device enters the Power Down Mode, and with the Real Time clock continuing to run, then the HT48R54A will only require 1uA of operating current at 3V, features which will ensure extended battery life. As the device also possesses several power and ground pins, this allows the power supply current to be effectively shared over several pins.

The HT48R54A can directly drive LEDs and other related display devices or used to control a wide range of switches, allowing for major savings in external components. The device is suitable for use in the increasingly popular LED display application products. However , in addition to LED applications, it is also suitable for use in household appliances, consumer products and other intelligent controller based products.

Naturally Holtek supplies the usual suite of hardware and software development tools in the way of its HT-IDE3000 development system to fully support this new device. This development system includes features such as real time emulation, full data memory and register access, logical hardware breakpoints, trace analysis etc. The full range of comprehensive and convenient features within the HT-IDE3000 development system ensures that designers are provided with all the tools they need to ensure that their new product designs are developed and debugged as efficiently as possible.
