Holtek takes pleasure in announcing two new TinyPower^TM technology 8-bit MCU devices, known as the HT48R52 and HT48R53. With their exceptionally low power requirements and giving the advantages of significantly extended battery life, these two new devices can meet the requirements of the trends for less power hungry green devices, new features which considerably enhance Holtek's already established MCU range. At a working voltage of 3V, the devices have an operating current of less than 300uA. In the Power Down Mode, even with the Real Time Clock continually running, the devices require only a minimal current of less than 0.8uA, giving these new Holtek's devices a major leap forward in the area of Power Saving functionality.

The HT48R52 and HT48R53 devices contain an 8-bit Holtek MCU kernel, which have the ability through software to control the operating frequency. This enables the devices, under a software command to switch between its fast operating mode of up to 8 MHz, to a slow operating mode of only 32768 Hz, making the devices appropriate for those applications with very low power demands. The devices each contain 36 input/output lines, which as inputs can directly interface to external switches or as outputs can directly drive LEDs. They additionally possess 6 power and ground lines enabling the power loading to be shared and eliminating heat dissipation problems. The internal Real Time Clock circuitry has a high accuracy, providing a means of accurate timing and reducing the costs of external timer hardware. The devices also include an internal Programmable Frequency Divider function, for use in supplying different audio frequencies. With their timer and interrupt functions, the designer is provided with even more effective software control functions, features which although extremely suitable for use in all kinds of household electrical consumer appliances, also open a vast range of other application possibilities which require intelligent control.

The HT48R52 and HT48R53 devices both have similar functions, however differ in their Program Memory capacity, with the HT48R53 having 4K of memory while the HT48R52 has 2K of memory. Both devices are supplied in 52 pin QFP packages, and are pin compatible. Holtek has already released supporting development tools for these two devices for which engineering sample devices are now available.
