New A/D Microcontroller - HT46C47
April 16, 2002
Following on from the recent release of the
HT46R47 OTP sensor
microcontroller, but directed
squarely at the high volume product area, Holtek is now pleased to announce the release of its sister
Mask device the HT46C47.The HT46C47 is part of Holtek's new generation of 8-bit A/D
microcontrollers, which with its 2K of program memory is capable of operating with supply voltages as low as 2.2V,
while remaining fully functionally compatible with its OTP sister device, the HT46R47. The device
with its internal A/D converter and PWM D/A converter provides a superior choice for high-speed
battery charger applications, eliminating the need for external A/D and D/A components and
giving subsequent excellent cost reductions. The availability of the compatible HT46R47
OTP
device ensures that users, during the design and initial manufacturing process, have the flexibility to
ensure products are delivered as quickly as possible.
In addition and for battery charger applications, the
HT46C47's PWM D/A converter, now running
at higher frequencies, permits the use of external inductors with smaller core sizes and lower weights,
giving rise to increased efficiencies. The A/D converter has 4 channels with a resolution of 9-bits
and as both channel selection and A/D option selection is all under software control, the user is
provided with a higher level of flexibility during the application design process. In addition to battery
charger applications, the HT46C47 is suitable for use in switch mode power supplies as well as
a range of household appliance applications such as electro-magnetic hotplates, electric blankets,
electric stoves etc.
To complement Holtek's range of microcontroller devices, a comprehensive set of hardware and
software tools have also been developed in the form of the HT-IDE2000 development system.
Features such as real time emulation, memory/register modification, hardware execution breakpoints,
trace analysers etc, are all standard features of the system which provide designers with all the tools
they need for rapid and efficient product application development and debug.
