02/16/2007

Holtek, after the release of its HT82A832R wired USB Skype Phone MCU, is now delighted to announce the release of its new wireless USB Skype Phone MCU chipset solution. These take the form of two devices, the HT82A850R Wireless baseband OTP MCU with CODEC, and the HT82A851R Wireless baseband OTP MCU with USB interface. The devices were developed in cooperation with Norway based RFIC specialist, Nordic Semiconductor ( http://www.nordicsemi.no), to jointly promote 2.4GHz ISM Band Wireless applications.
The HT82A850R device is designed for handset applications and to this effect includes fully integrated Voice CODEC and 4 ohm speaker high frequency audio amplifier functions. The HT82A851R differs in that it designed for USB terminals for which it is USB Audio Device Class compatible. Both devices include an embedded microcontroller in addition to a Nordic RFIC communication interface. With the advantages of One Time Programmable, OTP, Program Memory, a means is provided to respond to various extended applications, while offering the user a convenient design and manufacturing platform with resulting increased competitive advantages.
The HT82A850R and HT82A851R both contain an integrated 8-bit Holtek microcontroller, and each have a Program Memory capacity of 4K x 15 and Data Memory capacity of 384 x 8 together with a maximum operating frequency of 12MHz and include Power Down functions. The HT82A851R has an operating voltage of 4.0V~5.5V while the HT82A850R can operate within an extended voltage range of 3.0V~5.5V making it well suited for use in battery powered systems. In the area of I/O, the HT82A850R provides up to 24 I/O pins while the HT82A851R can supply up to 16 I/O pins, capabilities which can also be utilised for extended applications. No matter whether the HT82A851R and HT82A850R pair are used for communication in USB Skype Phones, E-Puppy, high function toys etc, or whether the pair of devices is used for other computer wireless communication related applications, this device pair will certainly offer users an excellent choice.
The increasing maturity and popularity of network communication is a trend that is well established set to continue, whether it be for data, speech or audio-visual streaming. With Holtek’s already existing highly integrated wired Skype Phone device, this newly released USB Wireless Skype Phone controller chipset, in addition to having superior performance and characteristics, in the area of product value, will offer superior competitive advantages, providing designers with a superior solution to open up a new generation of applications.
