Fourth Holtek Innovation Competition News Report

Holtek Semiconductor, as a major MCU designer, conducted its fourth MCU Innovation Competition on the 15th November at the Mingchi University of Technology in Taipei County. Participating in the event were 118 teams from all over Taiwan. With a total of over 550 teachers and students in attendance, Holtek’s Innovation Competition events are attracting an annually increasing number of participants. Competition was strong for both winner status and of course prize money, and the competition exhibited surprising creativity from the participating teams which was much accredited by the competition judges.


Holtek Semiconductor is well established in the area of MCU design with a wide range of MCU product offerings. In addition to devices for the general application area, Holtek also produces MCU devices for the speech, communication, computer peripheral, home appliance, medical etc application areas. Recent times have seen the company focus its attention on the TinyPower and Flash type devices, which has received much market attention. In releasing devices in line with market trends, Holtek has shown its commitment to becoming a world class professional MCU designer and in this regard has expended much effort to release a wide range of products with increased functionality and flexibility. In order to provide a forum to increase student practical experience and to encourage more students to participate in device applications, Holtek is willing to provide significant funding for both prize money and innovation competition activities.


The event organizer, the Mingchi University of Technology, as an innovative educational establishment, has continuously striven to encourage creativity and to provide a more refined and balanced level of education. With its broader outlook, life skills education and its domestic and overseas practical vocational education, the school has the objectives of hoping to foster an attitude of diligence and honesty for its graduate students. The excellent achievements of the University has seen it achieve much accreditation from both within and outside the academic world. Recent years has seen academic/industrial joint ventures become one important area of focus for the University, an objective that has been affirmed by obtaining for the second year running, an educational excellence award from the Department of Education for industry/academic cooperation. In the future the school hopes that with even closer industry co-operation to continue to improve all items of its research in terms of both quantity and quality, and to become the first choice as an industry/academic partner.


From strong promotion of the previous three innovation competition activities, Holtek has established a major industry/academic cooperative platform for major industrial colleges and high schools. Through these innovation competitions it is hoped that participating students, with their product design ideas, their submission of initial proposals, and then working through the complete product design process will obtain abilities in the areas of hardware, software and system development. This process wills serve to implement more practically based educational teaching methods in the teaching establishments. At the same time it is hoped that this activity was also able to implement the educational objective of encouraging the formation of excellent technical personnel for the future benefit of industry. Such activities will certainly lead to an enhancement of the country’s future competitive ability.
